Our ‘Meet the Team’ series begins with a conversation with one of our TMO’s, Nastasha Benjamin. Keep reading to find out a bit more about what life is like at HTM as a TMO.

The traffic management sector is a huge industry, but for those who are looking to break into the industry at entry level, there isn’t a huge amount of information out there about what life can be like as a Traffic Management Operative.

To help bridge the gap and give some insight into what the industry can be like and what to expect, we’re introducing our ‘Meet the Team’ series, where we will be catching up with different people from across the business and the roles they play within the HTM family.

Our first conversation took place with Natasha Benjamin, one of our Traffic Management Operatives who is based out of our Birmingham depot.

Have you always worked in the TM industry? No, I used to work as a door woman for pubs and night clubs for 12 years before coming to HTM.

How did you find it adapting to/joining the traffic management industry? Very easy as everyone was friendly and easy to get along with.

Which of the values resonates the strongest with you and why? Safety, as it is the number 1 key priority within the traffic management industry.

Tell us a bit about your role? It’s a very fast paced role and I work mainly nights as this is what I enjoy. I enjoy my job and try to balance it as best as I can family/social life.

What are the top 3 words you would use to describe your role at HTM? For High Speed work I would say strength, patience and confidence.

What do you enjoy most in your job role? I enjoy being outside and enjoy the fact that not every day is the same. I enjoy the physical demand of the job too when in the well of the IPV and installing jobs.

HTM career highlight so far or something you’re most proud of? I’m proud of how far I have come from when I first started in the industry, I have learnt a lot considering I knew nothing about traffic management before. I now have my 12C ticket which shows how much I have grown.

What advice do you have for women considering a career in Traffic Management? Starting in the traffic management industry was the best decision I have ever made and I wouldn’t change it for anything. Don’t be put off by thinking it’s ‘a man’s job’ because it really isn’t. Women can do just was well in this industry as men (and better!).

Guilty pleasure? A late night munch.

How did you come across the job at HTM? Through a member of UTS when I had completed my 1-day training.

Where do you see yourself in the next 5 years? I would like to see myself as a TMF in the near future but I’m going to concentrate on passing my IPV first.
