HTM Meet the Team: Louise Heath

With a variety of contracts that we work on at HTM, we have a number of roles that support these in different ways. Louise is our Road Space Coordinator which means she gets to flex her organisational skills and ensure that permits and road space bookings are sorted as required by our clients.

Louise spends majority of her time working on-site with our clients, mainly on a project named ‘A34 Sprint Scheme’ which is a part of the reconstruction of bus routes in preparation for the CommonWealth Games 2022. However, due to COVID restrictions, Louise has been spending more time at the Tyburn Road office working on this project along with other schemes.

What is your job role at HTM?

Road Space Coordinator

Tell us a bit about your role?

My job role as a whole is to book road space for various clients. Currently my role has been seconded out to work collaboratively with Transport for West Midlands to work on the A34 Sprint Scheme, however I still plan road space on behalf of the clients for HTM. To be able to do this successfully, it means I have to liaise with various local authorities, internal and external partners and organisations. This has enabled me to build good relationships and in turn has made my job a lot easier.

How long have you worked for HTM?

11 months, 1 year in March.

Tell us a bit about your background? (e.g. previous job roles/experiences)

My last role I worked for a home repairs and service company, managing a network of directly employed engineers and sub-contractors. The role was exceptionally vast, however the skills and experience I gained will be transferable in any role I choose to undertake. To give you an insight on a few roles and skills, for example, Managerial skills, Basic HR, Fleet management, Administration, Finance, Auditing, 1 to 1 employee engagement, Performance Management etc, the list could go on.

Have you always worked in the TM industry?

I’ve never worked in the TM industry until this role with HTM.

How did you find it adapting to/joining the traffic management industry?

I joined the traffic management industry because I wanted a challenge, I wanted to learn something new. It took me a while, however I feel like I’m starting to get the hang of it (nearly a year in) and I will only continue to learn new things.

Which of the values resonates the strongest with you and why? (Safety, Delivery, Innovation, Collaboration, Social Value, Mental Health)

I was awarded the Collaboration value back in September and I believe that resonates with me the strongest because I will try and help out the best I can. If my workload is not as busy one of the days I will always offer my help to the other coordinators or departments.

Looking forward to the new office opening as I believe the atmosphere will be exciting and we will all be working in one place. Also the growth of the business as its only going to bring more opportunities.

How was it for you joining the industry as a females?

The industry is very male dominated with only a few females and I recognised that early in. However, only a few months in females were popping up out of nowhere! So I like that females are more encouraged now to join the industry and we feel welcomed.

What advice do you have for women considering a career in Traffic Management?

Not to be deterred just because it’s predominantly males and that you may not have any experience in the field. HTM is happy to give you any training/support required and we’re seeing more women join the industry.

Adele-Easy on me

How did you come across the job at HTM?

I think I was looking for administrative/managerial roles and came across this role, which interested me as I’ve never worked in the TM Industry before.
