- HTM Lincoln Brave the Shave for Pancreatic Cancer UK
Highway Traffic Management (HTM)’s charity event, ‘Brave the Shave,’ took place on Thursday, 30th January 2025, at its Lincoln depot. The event aimed to raise vital funds and awareness for Pancreatic Cancer UK, the company’s chosen charity for 2025.
The event saw various members of the Lincoln HTM team step up to take on a slightly unconventional challenge for a great cause. Highlights of the day included:
- A Brave Head Shave: Senior Contracts Coordinator Ben Smith shaved his head to raise money for the charity along with David Carter, Daniel Freeland and Francis Wilson.
- Purple Power: Rhys Burrell dyed his hair purple, the official colour of Pancreatic Cancer UK.
- Waxing for a Cause: Some volunteers such as Sebastian Puszkarek and Harry Richardson had their chests waxed, whilst Contracts Manager Matus Fedorco and Contracts Coordinator Daniel Clegg, along with Supervisor Martyn Binnie and Operatives David Radford and Jordan Knight all had their legs waxed.
“This event was the first of our fundraising events in Lincoln this year,” said Ben. “We were all shocked by the statistics that over half of those diagnosed with pancreatic cancer die within 3 months. We therefore set our sights on raising £500 from this event and it’s been great to see our Lincoln team pull together.”
“Daniel Freeland and Jordan Knight have both worked as professional barbers in the past and were brilliant on the day, so a huge thank you to them for supporting our volunteers and making them feel at ease,” he continued.
Business Director Marcus Casey added, “Pancreatic cancer is sadly harder to diagnose with 80% of people diagnosed at stages three and four. We’re really proud of the courage shown by our Lincoln depot, who came up with the idea and more importantly, followed through with it for a great cause.”
Pancreatic cancer remains one of the toughest cancers to diagnose and treat, with survival rates among the lowest of any major cancer. Funds raised through ‘Brave the Shave’ helped Pancreatic Cancer UK fund life-saving research, provide expert support and campaign for earlier diagnosis and better treatments.
The total amount raised on the day has now passed the £1,000 mark, a huge amount towards the overall annual target of £12.5k.
