HTM Celebrate Birmingham Pride

Highway Traffic Management’s rainbow tyre tread was restored as they were one of many floats starting out in Centernary Square on Saturday, as the Pride parade returned to brighten the streets of Birmingham for 2024.

HTM’s participation in the Birmingham Pride Parade is just one of the many initiatives the company has undertaken to promote diversity and inclusion. Since first participating in the Pride parade in 2022, HTM have continued to focus even more upon equality, diversity and inclusion (EDI) within the business having engaged with Earnst & Young (EY) back in 2023 to work towards the National Equality Standard (NES).

Over the past year, HTM has launched several internal programs aimed at supporting and promoting EDI within the business, including mentorship opportunities, support groups, and inclusive policy reviews.

HR Manager Lucinda Sturman, commented, “This has helped us identify areas within the business where we are doing well to promote and nurture EDI, as well as areas for development. This has resulted in focused Employee Voice Champions from the ground up but has also led to the introduction of an EDI strategy to the business.”

HTM has a detailed and comprehensive EDI strategy to protect our people from unfair treatment or discrimination and to ensure that we create an environment where employees can reach their full potential and the business can generate the most value for our stakeholders as we tackle challenges as an organisation.

We celebrate our differences and see the strengths and competitive advantage that genuine inclusivity brings to our working environment, business objectives, and individual goals.

This has included clear governance and has senior business leaders assigned as sponsors for different categories within the EDI strategy, ensuring that these are monitored and discussed at board level.

HTM has also set KPIs that will be used to measure the progression of the business in areas of EDI, including the percentage of LGBTQ+ employees across the business.

“We are thrilled to be part of Birmingham Pride 2024,” said Marcus Casey, Business Director of HTM. “This event is a fantastic opportunity for us to celebrate our commitment to inclusion and to stand in solidarity with the LGBTQ+ community. Our belief as a business is that diversity makes us stronger.”

The HTM float featured:

  • The renowned HTM tyre tread livery was transformed with the tyre tread painted in colours of the rainbow to represent the full spectrum of identities within the LGBTQ+ community along with bright rainbow banners on the sides of the vehicle
  • Employee ambassadors, as employees from different roles and areas of the business joined the parade

“We have been supporting the representation of LGTBQ+ within the industry now since 2022 and we feel that this has had a positive impact across our industry, having now seen other TM companies participate in Pride parades across the country and showing their support,” continued Marcus.

“We are committed to creating a workplace where everyone feels valued and respected, and our participation in the parade is a celebration of that commitment.”
