- HTM Announce Charity of the Year as Pancreatic Cancer UK
Highway Traffic Management have announced their chosen charity for the 24-25 business year as Pancreatic Cancer UK, following the passing of their founder, Keith Baldwin, to the disease in early 2024.
This follows on from having raised over £10,000 for Macmillan Cancer Support for the 23-24 business year, with the temporary traffic management business wanting to hone in even more to support the charity that supported Keith following his diagnosis.
Pancreatic cancer is unfortunately hard to diagnose as it often doesn’t cause symptoms in the early stages and there are no screening programmes or simple tests available to help doctors diagnose it. Its vague symptoms like stomach and back pain, unexplained weight loss and indigestion, are also common to other, less serious conditions.
By aligning with Pancreatic Cancer UK, HTM aims to support the charity’s mission to improve survival by accelerating research into early detection and more effective treatments, providing expert support, and campaigning for better care for people affected by this devastating disease.
HTM’s Managing Director, Greg Baldwin, commented: “We are honoured to partner with Pancreatic Cancer UK as our Charity of the Year. Pancreatic cancer urgently needs greater attention, and we are committed to raising awareness and funds for life-changing research. This is, of course, driven by our very personal experience of losing Dad last year to this disease.”
The business has set its sights on raising £12,500 for Pancreatic Cancer UK and activities began at the start of last year with a Christmas raffle raising £505.00 for the charity.
Throughout the year, HTM employees will engage in a variety of fundraising initiatives to engage colleagues, customers, and the wider community. Planned activities include:
- Charity Walks and Runs: Employees across HTM depots will be returning for the Wolf Run again in 2025 and with others looking to run distances from 28 miles across February in Marcus Casey’s case, to a more extreme target for Matt Higgs who is looking to run 82 miles from the HTM Lincoln depot back to HTM’s headquarters in Birmingham, across 3 days
- Office Challenges: From bake sales to raffles and themed days, HTM staff are gearing up for fun and creative ways to contribute, including a ‘Brave the Shave’ event at the end of January taking place at the Lincoln depot
- Company Events: The fishing match and golf day will both be returning for 2025 following their success last year
- Corporate Donations: HTM will be reaching out to suppliers and clients to sponsor these events and help raise money towards their target
Amy Hannagan, Corporate Partnership Manager at Pancreatic Cancer UK, said: “We’re thrilled to partner with Highway Traffic Management in 2025. For too long, pancreatic cancer has been overlooked, underfunded, and left behind. As a result, more than half of people still die within three months of diagnosis. Action taken today can transform the future for people with pancreatic cancer and support from businesses like HTM helps us go above and beyond for everyone affected, bringing more support, improved detection, and kinder, more effective treatments for the deadliest common cancer.”
