Traffic Management Operative

Reports to: TM Lead Operatives, Contracts Department, Delivery Manager

Based at: Depots

Job purpose: To ensure the completion of the Company’s daily activities, whilst complying with Company policies, procedures, Safe Systems of Work (SSoW) and all relevant legislation and regulations, i.e. Health & Safety at Work Act etc 1974. Promote a positive Health & Safety culture throughout the company.

Key Responsibilities:

  • To follow instructions and briefings provided through the Contract Department and your Lead Traffic Management Operative (LTMO). To use your own knowledge and expertise to ensure high standards are maintained on all sites.
  • Actively engage in briefings from the LTMO prior to the commencement of each contract, ensuring you ask questions if you don’t understand anything.
  • Develop a clear understanding of the hazards involved with any SSoWc and Method Statement to be employed for each contract, prior to leaving the yard.
  • Organisation & control of the safe loading & securing of all equipment on Traffic Management Vehicles (TMV) in accordance with appropriate regulations prior to transporting to or from site.
  • All procedures are completed in accordance with Company Policy i.e. vehicle defect checks
  • Ensure you are wearing full P.P.E at all times within live sites or when undertaking traffic management (TM) activities. Effective liaison with clients and the public on site to promote a positive Company image in all circumstances.
  • Install, maintain and remove all TM required as per briefing given by Lead Operative/Contracts Department.
  • Any changes are communicated to your Lead Operative and/or Supervisor at the earliest
    opportunity to ensure they are agreed, safe and recorded.
  • Support trainees and less experienced colleagues with their technical knowledge, competence, performance and behaviour, using a mentoring approach when appropriate.
  • Ensure all TMV used are left in a clean & tidy condition at the end of each shift.
  • All equipment is returned to the predetermined location upon return to the depot and vans are unloaded completely unless instructed otherwise by the Lead Operative.
  • All losses & damages of equipment is recorded and communicated to the Lead Operative at the earliest opportunity.
  • All requested depot duties are completed upon completion of any site based tasks if requested by your LTMO or Contract Department.
  • Following any reasonable request made by Management.
