Traffic Management 12D Lead Operative PLUS (12D LTMO+)

Reports to: Supervisor, Contracts Department, Delivery Manager

Based at: 60 Tyburn Road, Erdington, Birmingham B24 8LA

Job purpose: To ensure the completion of the Company’s daily activities, whilst complying with Company policies and procedures and all relevant legislation and regulations, i.e. Health & Safety at Work Act etc 1974. Promote a positive Health & Safety culture throughout the company. To act to the highest standards, leading by example, acting as a mentor to others whilst fulfilling standard Lead Traffic Management Operative (LTMO) duties.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Through liaison with the Contracts Department to manage sites ensuring all works are completed to a high standard and resources used effectively.
  • Provide a comprehensive briefing to all HTM site staff and the commencement of each contract, or when changes occur, ensuring they understand the Safe Systems of Work (SSoW), including the Risk Assessment, Method Statement and TM Layouts.
  • Ensure you look ahead at future works, are prepared, understand potential hazards and have read through the SSoW for each contract.
    Organisation & control of the safe loading & securing of all equipment on Traffic Management Vehicles (TMV) in accordance with appropriate regulations at all times.
  • All procedures and paperwork completed in accordance with Company Policy, with particular attention to vehicle defect sheets, site paperwork, documenting activities along with any changes to the scope of works and recording of safety observations.
  • Ensure you and all operatives have the correct full P.P.E. and this is worn at all times when on life sites or undertaking traffic management activities.
  • Effective liaison with clients, the public and stakeholders on site to promote a positive Company image in all circumstances.
  • Install, Maintain and Remove all TM required as per briefing given by the Contracts & Operations Department and as instructed within site paperwork.
  • Any changes to pre-planned activities are implemented, recorded & communicated to the Contract & Operations department at the earliest opportunity.
  • Ensure all paperwork is completed in a timely manner throughout the shift through your handheld login, signed by the relevant people.
  • All TMVs are kept in a clean & tidy condition. They should be cleaned thoroughly at the end of each shift.
  • All equipment is returned to the predetermined location in the depot and vans are unloaded completely unless instructed otherwise by the Contract Department.
  • All losses or damages to equipment are recorded and communicated to the Contracts Department at the earliest opportunity.
  • All requested depot duties are undertaken and completed by staff under your control if requested by the Contract Department.
  • Oversee, manage and provide guidance to all HTM site staff to improve their technical knowledge,
    competence, performance and behaviour using a mentoring approach when appropriate.
  • Actively engage in Company initiatives to promote quality, develop staff and ensure high performance.
  • Work to HTM’s company values at all times.
  • Undertake any reasonable request made by Management.
  • Use coaching and mentoring skills whenever appropriate to support training and development of other LTMO’s, operatives and trainees on site.
  • Be an advocate for the development of staff.
  • Consistently perform to the highest performance and behaviour standards (measured
    through peer reviews and annual evaluations).
  • To have a focus around personal development, including non-technical skills such as management, leadership, communication, dealing with conflict and problem solving.
  • Actively be involved in working and feedback groups as requested.
